your Atmosphere account is your identity on the Atmosphere, the open network behind Bluesky and a growing number of other apps. think of it as a passport: something you carry with you, not something that any single app gave you and can take away.

use it across multiple apps

your account works with Bluesky, Blacksky, Tangled, Streamplace, Leaflet, Blento, Wisp, Germ, and any other app built on the same network, including our own (realms and lsky). just like an email address works to sign into many different websites, your atmosphere account lets you sign into different apps while keeping the same identity, followers, and content.

what makes it different

in most social platforms, your data belongs to the platform. with an atmosphere account:

— you own your identity. your handle and permanent ID belong to you, not a single app. no one can take it away from you, and you can use it across the Atmosphere.

— your data is portable. posts, follows, and content live in your own account, not locked inside one app's database. the app can choose to not show it, but it'll never be able to just delete it entirely on a whim.

— you can move freely. switch hosting providers any time without losing your identity, posts, or connections. pick a provider that suits you - one that you trust, one that accepts you.
